- SMS Messages: We read SMS messages from your mobile money providers to extract transaction information.
- Transaction Data: All parsed transaction details including amounts, dates, merchants, recipients, balances, and categories.
- Account Information: Your mobile money account details and preferences.
- Categorization Rules: Custom categories and merchant rules you create.
2.2 Information Stored on Our Servers
We store the following minimal information on our cloud servers:
- Authentication Data: Your email address and encrypted authentication credentials when you create an account.
- User Profile: Optional display name and basic account settings.
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous app usage statistics (e.g., feature usage, crash reports) to improve the app.
- Optional Transaction Data: If you choose to enable cloud sync features in the future, transaction data may be stored on our servers with your explicit consent. This is currently disabled and will require your opt-in.
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 Local Data Processing
Your SMS messages and transaction data are processed entirely on your device to:
- Parse and categorize your mobile money transactions automatically
- Generate spending insights and reports
- Apply categorization rules and merchant matching
- Display your financial activity within the app
3.2 Cloud Data Usage
Information stored on our servers is used only to:
- Authenticate your account and maintain your login session
- Sync your app settings and preferences across devices
- Provide optional cloud backup and sync features (with your explicit opt-in)
- Improve app performance and fix bugs
- Send important product updates and security notifications
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- Local Encryption: All transaction data stored on your device is encrypted using industry-standard database encryption.
- No SMS Transmission: Your SMS messages never leave your device. They are read, processed, and stored locally only.
- Secure Authentication: We use secure authentication services with industry-standard encryption and security protocols.
- HTTPS Only: All communication with our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
- End-to-End Encryption: If you opt into cloud features, your transaction data is encrypted before transmission and can only be decrypted by you.
5. Permissions We Request
MobiSpend requests the following permissions:
- SMS Permission (Required): To read mobile money transaction messages and automatically track your expenses. We only read messages from recognized mobile money providers.
- Internet Permission (Required): To authenticate your account and sync settings. Not used to transmit transaction data.
- Storage Permission: To store your transaction database locally on your device.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Authentication Services: For secure user authentication and account management.
- Cloud Infrastructure: For hosting authentication and optional backup services.
- Google Play Services: For app distribution and updates. See Google Privacy Policy.
These services may collect anonymous usage data according to their own privacy policies. We do not share your transaction data with any third parties.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local Data: Transaction data remains on your device until you manually delete it or uninstall the app.
- Cloud Data: If you delete your account, we will permanently delete your authentication data and profile within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy
MobiSpend is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. International Users
MobiSpend is available globally. If you are using the app from outside your country of residence, please note that your authentication data may be transferred to and processed in different jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.

- Deletion: You can delete custom categories you've created. To delete all transaction data, uninstall the app or clear app data from your device settings.
- Account Deletion: You can request full account deletion by contacting us.
- Opt-Out: You can revoke SMS permissions at any time in your device settings (though the app will no longer function).
